<font style="font-size: medium;">全球的咖啡愛好者有好消息了：他們丟棄的大量咖啡渣有助於除去污物的有毒氣味。在美國《危險原料》雜誌中，紐約市立大學的研究者發表研究報告稱，咖啡渣可以吸收氫硫化物氣體，污物聞起來如此惡臭難聞多是由這些氣體引起的。現在普遍的做法是把活性炭用在處理設施中來吸收污物的氫硫化物。但是如果將活性炭換作咖啡渣，其吸附硫磺的效果尤其好，這是因爲咖啡中的一個關鍵成分：咖啡因。研究者將咖啡渣、水和鋅混合乾燥後對其進行碳化。研究報告作者、紐約市立大學化學家和化學工程師Teresa J. Bandosz說，咖啡因含有氮，可增加碳消除硫磺的能力。 </font></p>
